Introduction

Emperor – Mulla resembles Snappers in shape and taste but is not commonly known in Pakistan as compared to other great fish. Emperor – Mulla is very famous in Gulf and hence most of the Emperor is exported to Gulf from Pakistan. However, It’s exclusively available at Niwan Seafood for Pakistanis. Emperor is decent odorless fish and can be cooked in a variety of ways.

Flavor Profile

Emperor has a mild but distinctive flavor and is quite likable to all age groups. It cooks up very firm, almost chewy, and is difficult to flake apart on the plate. Emperor must not be overcooked as it can harden the meat.

Habitat

Emperor is a Sea fish that mainly lives nearshore and offshore coral reefs, lagoons, seagrass beds, mangrove swamps, and coastal sand and rock areas.

Catching Method

Emperor is caught using Gillnets, Hook lines.

Physical Attributes

Emperor has Scales on the body. Body depth 2.5–2.9 in SL; snout length 1.8–2.4 in head length; snout length (measured without lip) 0.8–1 in cheek height; lateral teeth in jaws rounded with points or molars that often have tubercles; inner surface of pectoral fin base densely covered with scales.

Color

Emperor has a yellowish or bronze body, lighter below, centers of many scales with a white or light blue spot, sometimes irregular dark indistinct bars on sides; fins are whitish or yellowish, pelvic fins are dusky, the edge of the dorsal fin is reddish.

Size

On average, the Emperor size range is 0.5 kg to 3 kg per fish. However, other sizes are also occasionally available.
